One of Those Things That Seems Like A Good Idea at the Time….
I went to Walmart yesterday–a place I usually avoid if at all possible. I have nothing personal against Walmart, it’s just that I go there so seldom that I can never easily find anything in there when I do go, so I end up wandering the aisles, looking for whatever it is I happen to be after. In the commercials, cheerful folks in those distinctive blue vests are everywhere in the store–you can barely get down an aisle without running into 2 or 3 of them, just falling all over each other wanting to help you. In real life? Not so much. Anyway, yesterday I decided I needed to get some dog clippers. I am going to start shaving the pugs myself. Yes, you read that correctly. All three of them. Do I have time to bathe and groom three pugs? Of course I don’t. I’m a busy woman. Besides working a full time job that requires more than 40 hours a week, I also have an hour commute each way to that job. I have also started training again for a half marathon in November, I have the normal household responsibilities everyone else has, and I also take seriously my need to keep up with the very complicated plot on Game of Thrones. This involves not only watching the recorded episodes each week, but rewinding quite a few parts because my husband and I cannot understand much of the dialogue: it is spoken so quickly and those complicated names are difficult to catch even without the accents. Then, I have to reference what is happening with what actually happened in the George R.R. Martin books on which the series is based. (Actually, they follow the books pretty closely most of the time). Plus, we are in the process of renovating a house in a city 25 miles away from where we currently live so that we can downsize (that’s another blog post or two or ten) so I have that on my plate as well. So, no, I don’t have time to start grooming three pugs on top of everything else I do. But when the vet that I take the pugs to stopped offering grooming services in addition to veterinary services, that left only one grooming business that was conveniently located close to where I live. And evidently this particular business must be the new “it” place for all the mover and shaker dogs of North Brevard, because I now have to book their grooming appointments further in advance than Jennifer Aniston has to book time at Canyon Ranch. And pay twice as much. I called last week to get appointments for my three little darlings and was told that it would be 6 weeks before I could get them in. Six weeks!! I go to probably the best stylist in North Brevard, maybe in all of Brevard (shout out to Heather Page Csonka at La Cita Salon) and I can get in sooner than 6 weeks should I have a hair emergency! I cannot plan my dogs’ beauty schedule 6 weeks in advance–did I mention I have a busy life?? So I have no choice but to do it myself. After all, how hard can it be?? I’ll let you know after I finish with them next weekend. I promise to post pictures. I guess I should really post before and after pictures. And with all the money I will save by not using a professional groomer, I have promised Bogie, Bacall, and Annie some special treats, as well as some special costumes to wear while their coats grow out in the unlikely event that I have somehow overestimated my styling skills…..
OH MY GOD!
I truly did not know about your life, how busy and complicated that is! And then you take the time to blog.
I love you more every time I find something out about you or when you are just your sweet self and keeping up with so much.
I did not know that Pugs, or little Bull dogs or whatever they are (sorry! I just don’t know). Anyway I did not know that you had to groom and shave them.
If I lived there, I would do all your chores for you!
