Dehydrated Dog Treats
One of the things I love to do with my dehydrator is to make various treats for my pug. She loves to eat and we love to feed her. Unfortunately, this is a bad combination since pugs are notoriously prone to putting on weight and a fat pug is generally an unhealthy pug. In order for me to be able to indulge my treat giving, and for Annie to be able to indulge her favorite past time of eating anything that doesn’t eat her first. I’ve started making my own healthy treats for her, with no added suger, preservatives, or fillers. One of easiest and healthiest for her are dehydrated sweet potato slices. Have you seen what these sell for in the grocery store dog treat section?? About $8 a bag!! Do you know how many sweet potatoes you can buy for $8? Neither do I, but it’s a lot! And nothing could be simpler to make. You can make the treats from raw potatoes or you may bake them first. I’ve done both, and they will keep for weeks if refrigerated. I usually keep them at room temp, though, and they still last at least 3 weeks, which is about right for three large potatoes–Annie gets a “chip” several times a day. She also loves raw green beans, which are also good for her and very low calorie. I have not tried to dehydrate them yet, but it’s on my list. Do you make any homemade treats for your pup? Let me know what works for you!
So kind of you, Annie knows that mommy!
I am betting that your furbabies are as close to being angels as they can get.
